One small glass daily increases the risk of premature death
One small glass daily increases the risk of premature death: A new American study overrides all that we have known so far about healthy alcohol consumption in moderation.

According to an article published in the scientific journal Alcoholism: Clinical and Experimental Research, one to two drinks a day is capable of increasing the risk of premature death.

“At any age, if you drink one or two drinks a day, you have a 20% higher risk of dying than someone who drinks the same amount two to three times a week. So we can no longer claim that the drink is good for health, “commented Sarah Hart, an assistant professor in the Department of Psychiatry at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis and author of the study.

The researcher notes, however, that the 20% increase in the risk of death depends on age. For example, as few people are likely to die in the third decade of their lives, an additional 20% risk of death is less significant for this age group than someone over 70 years of age.

The study focused on data from over 400,000 people, of whom more than 340,000 (18-85 years) had participated in a national study. Another group of 94,000 people (40-60 years old) came from a database of the US National War Veterinary Health System.

Analysis of the data revealed an increased risk of premature death due to alcohol. Indeed, the greater risk share was related to the increased incidence of cancer.

According to scientists, people often underestimate that alcohol can increase the risk of cancers, such as breast and colon. Also, drinking on a weekly basis can increase the risk of heart attack and stroke.
